Giving at Grace Church
"And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
Mark 12:41-4 (ESV)
Here at Grace, we aren't petitioning for your finances. We are, however, actively challenging our members to live out their faith in accordance to the Word of God. The most distinct theme in the scripture above exists in the widow's faith; this faith allows her to relinquish control of not only her finances, but also any remaining sense of security and control she may have felt she had over her life at that moment.
This is the faith that we are yearning after in our body. This is the type of faith that is not justified by any given dollar amount, but by the condition of the giver's heart. At Grace, we view tithing as a tangible expression of faith in God's sovereignty and provision in our lives.
